Gabriella Vuxani – Life in the Slow Lane

Born in Trieste, in the far northeastern corner of Italy, she studied piano at the Conservatory of her city for eight years.

Pop and rock music have always been a part of her life: as a child, she listened to Beatles songs, then to West Coast American music.

She later played keyboards in a blues band for several years, then sang in a 70s and 80s cover band.

A few years ago, she began writing songs. Together with pianist, arranger, and musical director Giovanni Vianelli, she wrote the 10 songs of the album Butterfly, released in 2024 on major digital platforms.

For the album cover she chose the painting “Liberation” by Dusedda Oriolo, which depicts a butterfly-like woman, a symbol of freedom and inner rebirth achieved through artistic expression.

The album ranges musically from nostalgic ballads like Cold Hands, Falling Star and House on the Hill, to more gritty rock pieces like Summer Night Smile and Life in the Slow Lane, from the psychedelic blues of Pygmalion to the joyful pop of the title track, from the Latin rock of C.F.S.P. to the introspective atmospheres of Walk Alone, concluding with the ethereal lyricism of Carousel.

The songs’ themes primarily touch on love in its various facets: the suffering for a problematic relationship (Pygmalion), the yearning for an unrequited feeling (The House on the Hill), the melancholy of a broken relationship (Cold Hands), the joy of a love lived with joy and irony (Summer Night Smile and Life in the Slow Lane). Other songs are dedicated to the struggle against darkness and inner demons (Falling Star and Walk Alone). These are counterbalanced by the celebration of inner rebirth and the full awareness of one’s potential (Butterfly). The album culminates with a song dedicated to friendship, a constant beacon in the darkest moments (C.F.S.P.) and another one inspired by nostalgic childhood memories (Carousel).

In 2025 she wrote a new song, Melody, based on a short poetic tale by her father. A love story between a boy and a girl in a town on the Adriatic Sea, after the Second World War. The girl, Melody, knows that one day her boyfriend would leave forever, exiled from his land. Nevertheless she stays with him until he goes away. When many years later he finally returns to his country and looks for her, he discovers that another war has taken her away forever.
