La Catedral Studios is a vibrant art hub based in the Dublin’s Liberties and is home to a diverse community of visual artists, sculptors, designers, photographers, digital creators, writers, and makers . It’s a dynamic and collaborative space where creativity thrives across multiple disciplines.
Co-funder and studio space curator/facilitator Antonella Scanu is the mind and driving force behind La Catedral Studios, a charming Victorian building formerly a clothing factory. Starting from a derelict building, she envisioned and built an independent creative hub.
Every corner of the space reflects her vision — bold, inclusive, and multidisciplinary.
At the back of the building, The Back Loft Creative Hub offers a bright, open plan partitioned studio which under Antonella’s direction was transformed into a space dedicated to emerging ecletic young artists artists, previously operated as a multipurpose space for the arts under the name of The Back Loft.
Antonella also conceived and led a major indoor and outdoor art intervention, transforming structural features into art installations through the participation of invited or in-house artists. She co-created a series of narrative collage work on wooden panels — each telling a story, each part of a larger vision. Her work and vision anchors the building’s character and atmosphere. These Vaudeville-inspired panels are complemented by other contributions from various artists throughout the building.
La Catedral’s facade has also become a public artwork. Highlights include fingerprint planter boxes by in- house artist Fionn Clissmann, solar-powered multicolored lighting, and the upcoming 2025 photo installation “The Artist Eye” by in-house photographer Fabio Grassi — featuring close-up portraits of resident artists’ eyes, connecting the public to the people behind the studios’ closed doors.
La Catedral Studios will take part in Open House Dublin 2025, offering pre-booked tours on Saturday, October 18th, from 2–5pm (booking via the Open House Dublin website). This year’s theme, Future Heritage, explores how we shape and preserve meaningful spaces — something Antonella Scanu continues to do through vision, care, and long-term artistic commitment.
