Christmas dinner with the homeless, a tradition over a century old

This Christmas marks the 101st year of a quiet Irish tradition. On December 25, the Knights of St. Columbanus, together with their partners, will once again serve a free hot Christmas meal to homeless people and anyone in need at the RDS in Dublin. In parallel, takeaway meals will be distributed in towns and cities across Ireland.

What began more than a century ago has become a constant presence on Christmas Day. The aim remains unchanged: offer food, dignity and a sense of welcome on a day that can be especially difficult for those living without security or support. The initiative is powered by volunteers, community groups and long standing local partnerships.

Pinocchio Magazine comments, “This is a tradition that speaks through actions. No rhetoric, just people showing up, cooking, serving and making sure Christmas Day includes everyone.”
