Alex Murillo: Motocross, Rock and Poetry

Alex Murillo is a musician and poet from Caracas, Venezuela, whose identity is defined by a unique intersection of professional discipline and artistic exploration. Raised in a multicultural household of Spanish and Italian ancestry, Alex developed an early appreciation for music and literature, ranging from Elton John and Fleetwood Mac to Latin music and nu-metal. Before pursuing the arts, he dedicated himself to professional motocross, competing on the Venezuelan national circuit from the age of 13. During this period, he also completed a business degree at Universidad Católica Andrés Bello. This background in high stakes sports and academic management instilled in him a discipline and resilience that would later define his transition into the global music industry.

The shift from the track to the stage occurred in 2015 after Alex suffered a series of severe physical injuries, including multiple fractures to his ankle and foot, concussions, and broken ribs. During his recovery, he rediscovered a CD of The Doors and found deep inspiration in the music and the erratic persona of vocalist Jim Morrison. This period of reinvention led Alex to teach himself the art of singing, influenced by figures such as Frank Sinatra, Glenn Danzig, and Ian Astbury. In 2016, he formed a Doors tribute band with his brother Diego in Caracas, but the escalating political and economic crisis in Venezuela eventually prompted him to move to Europe.

After spending time in Madrid and the Canary Islands, and being accepted for a philosophy degree at La Sorbonne in Paris, Alex settled in Dublin in 2018. He briefly attended the BIMM Institute on Francis Street but chose to leave the course to pursue a more proactive path. In 2019, he founded the band Brake Loose, originally named Live Wire. The project was envisioned as an artistic RocknRoll conglomerate with a touch of spoken word poetry. The band performed over 50 gigs in their first year, including a corporate show for Johnny Rockets and opening for the Irish rock band Aslan. In 2021, Alex restructured the lineup to ensure professional commitment, catching the attention of legendary music producers and executives such as Mark Needham and Rob Stevenson from 300 Entertainment.

For the remainder of 2026, Alex is focused on several major professional milestones. Brake Loose is currently finalizing the production of their debut album and preparing for an inaugural tour through Germany and Switzerland in November and December. Parallel to his musical output, Alex is actively promoting his literary work and intends to publish his first book of poems. The collection, titled Sense in Nonsense (poems of ourselves), contains 337 poems that reflect his engagement with writers like Nietzsche, Rimbaud, and the Beat Generation. He aims to start the publishing process in 2027 and frequently shares insights into his poetic journey through his social platforms.

Pinocchio Magazine Comment: Alex’s voice carries a crushing and theatrical depth. It is a manifestation of pure drama, charging the atmosphere with an emotional intensity that mirrors the grit of his poetry and the scars of his past.
