Federico Tabouret: Between Two Frontiers

Federico Tabouret debuts with a novel that feels both intimate and cinematic. In “Tra due frontiere” – Between Two Frontiers – , published by Costa Edizioni, Federico sets his story on a train, in flight, heading toward a small seaside town on the French border. The destination is Ventimiglia, a place he knows well, and the return after eighteen years becomes the trigger for a quiet reckoning with memory.

As Paolo Magris notes in the preface, the narrative moves with a clear and steady voice. Federico strips the journey down to its essentials. Friendship with Don Vincenzo, an eccentric restaurateur, anchors him. Encounters with elderly locals bring back the flavours of a slower life. Wandering the narrow alleys, he crosses paths with his first love and with a writer friend, reopening doors he thought closed. The two frontiers are not just Trieste and Ventimiglia. They are the thresholds of the self that sooner or later must be faced.

Pinocchio Magazine adds that the novel stands out for its sharp interior note and for the ease with which Federico guides the reader across emotional borders without forcing sentiment.
