Fabio Grassi was born in Brianza, near the picturesque Lake Como in northern Italy, into a family with deep roots in the Sabinia region of central Italy. Though formally trained in technology, Fabio has always nurtured a profound passion for art and music. At the age of 15, he discovered photography, drawn to wildlife, landscapes, and architecture.
His career path is as diverse as his interests – ranging from CAD designer and officer in the Italian Army to chef in Donegal and executive coach. Throughout these varied experiences, photography remained a constant, a way for him to reconnect with himself and the natural world.
Over the past five years, Fabio embarked on a journey of personal exploration, turning to poetry as a medium to express his innermost emotions. This introspective work led to a more complex project: a multimedia collection titled Gracing Freedom: Lyrical Portraits in Search of Authenticity, created in collaboration with musicians to merge his emotional photopoetry with music.
As Pinocchio Magazine writes, “At the heart of Fabio’s art lies an intimate and honest need to understand himself and share his inner self without filters. In his work, poetry and photography intertwine and complement each other, forming a language of eloquent images and vivid words that allow us to see the world through his eyes – a world made of small details that become metaphors of the self, symbols of what we feel we truly are. Fabio creates a space of images and words where we rediscover ourselves, in the constant search for the truth that hides in things – and in us.”
The first edition of Gracing Freedom is now available: 50 uniquely numbered copies, each with a personalized dedication. Fabio is currently in the process of self-publishing the work more widely. He also plans to release a series of standalone Lyrical Portraits as wall art, each featuring a QR code that invites viewers to experience the poetry and imagery through immersive audio readings set to carefully crafted music.
